THERE IS A SEASON FOR EVERYTHING (8×8/oil on canvas)

“The stairway is round – and was ‘fun to build’. We built the house in 1974 as in OUR Family built it. I learned how to work – dig the footings, pour concrete, waterproofing, dig ditches, plant ivy. We did everything but the plumbing, wiring, laying stone on fireplace and laying the block. However the round stairway, my uncle had to do. As every single cinder block for the foundation – about 15 high – had to be cut at a different angle and the block layer would not do it. I was in the 9th grade, actually spring of 8th grade – when we hand dug the footings, as it was on a hill, and they could not get a back hoe in there to dig the foundation.  I learned the value of working – mom, Jerry, our cousins and my uncle San (Sanford) worked starting in late April or early May. We moved in January 1974 and worked over the years to finish the house.”
